Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. What is Bradenton Missionary Village (BMV)?
- A. Bradenton Missionary Village is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization based in Bradenton, Florida. Established in 1980, BMV is a Christian retirement community providing independent living housing, and a variety of amenities and support services for approximately 250 retired evangelical missionaries.
- Q. Is BMV church affiliated?
- A. No. It is not intended that BMV take the place or function of the local church. We do not conduct Sunday morning, Sunday evening or Wednesday night worship services. There are a number of good local churches and each resident is expected to become involved in a local evangelical church in the area.
- Q. What are the health and age requirements for admission?
- A. Applicants must be 62 years of age (for couples, one person must be 62 years of age - no minimum for spouse). All applicants must meet our criteria for independent living.
- Q. Is an entry fee required to become a BMV resident?
- A. Currently no entrance fee is required to become a resident of BMV. A modest monthly service fee helps offset a portion of the costs of administration, maintenance, food, water, sewer and garbage, security and access to the amenities and facilities.
- Q. Are pets allowed?
- A. No dogs or other animals are allowed at BMV with the exception of small birds kept in proper cages, and fish in small aquariums (30 gallon maximum).
- Q. May I have guests in my home at BMV?
- A. Residents may have guests in their homes for up to two weeks in a six month period. Residents must be home when guests come to visit and are fully responsible for their guests. Allowing non-residents to stay in your unit while you are away from BMV is not permitted.
- Q. Are there other levels of care at BMV?
- A. Not at the present time. We are exploring the possibility of adding Assisted Living in the future and will provide updates as details become available.
- Q. What happens if I become ill and require more care?
- A. Should your health needs ever change and you no longer meet the criteria for independent living, with the advice of your doctor and with consultation with your family and/or friends, BMV will provide a list of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Any expenses incurred will be the responsibility of the resident.
- Q. What about food service?
- A. An evening meal is available Monday-Friday in the Rossi Center. Contact the BMV Business Office for purchase information and current prices (including applicable sales taxes).
- Q. "I'm not ready for that yet."
- A. Sure you are! Many residents tell us after they moved in, "I wish I had done this sooner!" The best time to make decisions about your future is now, while you are independent and healthy. Waiting until after you or your spouse's health declines puts undue emotional and financial stress on both you and your family. By coming to BMV now, you can begin to take advantage of the amenities and Florida lifestyle.
